Split verdict refers to a verdict in which one party prevails on some claims, while the other party prevails on others. In the context of criminal law, it refers to a verdict, finding a defendant guilty on one charge but not guilty on another. It can also be a verdict of guilty for one defendant and of not guilty for a codefendant.

1–1 verdicts or divergence of opinion are very rare but if so - the decision will be sent to the higher bench for their decision. This bench is a 3,5,7 member bench so that a complete verdict could be attained.
